Testing Your Internet Connection Speed

It is required some time to make a test. Try to stop loading and to provide other Internet sites, as well as receive mail during a test. If you don't, it is likely to get not that results you are expecting for.

Bits (bps) and Bytes (Bps) — what difference?

Bit (binary digit; also a bit) — is the smallest possible unit of information in the computer. Along with a bit bytes using as a unit of measurement information. To draw an analogy, the bit can be thought of as the letter, byte as a word. Typically, a byte is equal to 8 bits.

Most characters, which you are reading now with the monitor screen, the amount of information of 1 byte. As bits and bytes value very small in nature, they are usually use with prefixes kilo-, mega-, giga-, tera-, etc.

As lines of the most widespread computer systems use the binary number system, it means that all information is of value to the base of 2. Thus one bit may take two meanings: 1/0, true/false, yes/no, etc. As byte is eight bits it means that one byte can contain 28 combinations ie 256. Usually the number of combinations is up to ecode the majority of alphabets. It felt, at the rising of the computer age. Therefore, we now perceive byte as the 8-bit de facto. Although there may be constructed systems in which a byte is composed of more or fewer bits.
