As we get closer to moving Firefox 3 from the alpha stage to the beta stage, testers of Minefield (our nightly builds), and people who follow the user experience team’s mockups on bugzilla and forums like dev.apps.firefox are starting to see some glimpses of what Firefox 3 may look like. Since I haven’t posted to my blog yet about our strategy for the visual refresh, I figured I am long due for a post about what we are trying to accomplish, why, and when it is going to land.

SEOUL (AFP) - After expanding across Earth, the Internet is now set to spread into outer space to reach parts no network has gone before, one of its co-creators predicted Wednesday.
Vinton Cerf said the proposed "interplanetary" Internet would allow people an ability "to access information and to control experiments taking place far away" from Earth.

Brazil's Federal Police arrested Tuesday 40 people who were allegedly involved in a foreign trade scheme to favor U.S. multinational Cisco Systems.
The director-president of Cisco's subsidiary in Brazil and entrepreneurs, tax auditors and directors were arrested in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia in a joint operation conducted by the U.S. Internal Revenues Service (IRS) and the Brazil Federal Prosecution Office.

Nokia Oyj, the world's biggest mobile- phone company, agreed to buy Navteq Corp. for $8.1 billion to gain digital maps of 69 countries and compete with TomTom NV in the market for navigation devices.
Nokia will pay $78 in cash for each share of Chicago-based Navteq, the largest maker of maps used in car-navigation equipment, the companies said in a statement today. Navteq stock, up about 80 percent in the past three months on speculation about a takeover, fell $1.52, or 2 percent, to $76.45 at 4:01 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange trading.

Microsoft released an update of its Live Search. The revamped Live boasts improved core search technology and more vertical search areas. Microsoft said the changes lay a foundation that will help the company keep pace with the growth of the Web. But will they give Microsoft a leg up over Google?

An influential European think tank has released a position paper calling for PCs to be sold in the EU without pre-bundled operating systems like Microsoft Windows.
"There is no reason why there should not be diversity in operating systems," says the paper, published Monday by the Brussels-based Globalisation Institute.

Microsoft, which on one hand started touting its ad client wins following its $6 billion aQuantive's deal which closed six weeks ago, is on a quiet PR campaign to convince Internet companies, advertisers and regulators to oppose Google's planned $3.1 billion acquisition of DoubleClick, reports WSJ.
