Free VoIP calling may be in The Pudding

While ooma may be looking to change VoIP calling payment from monthly billing to an upfront fee for hardware, another company is trying to make VoIP calling totally free. Pudding Media believes the trick to offering free VoIP calling is in being able to tie those calls to ad revenue, and that is why it’s offering a technology that listens in on phone conversations and displays information, ads, videos, photos, and offers based on keywords spoken by the callers.
To showcase its VoiceSense technology, Pudding Media is offering a beta version of its service at The Pudding website. Using the website, callers can make a free call to any number in North America. The service is completely Web-based, so there is no client that needs to be downloaded to use the beta.
Pudding Media’s technology platform does not have to be limited to VoIP calls, however. It can be used by any communications provider–whether fixed line, mobile, or Web-based–to allow the provider to offer ad-supported calling plans. Pudding Media is not interested in creating its own service as much as it hopes to offer VoiceSense technology platform to communication providers for use.
